How to play Dutch Masters using the app.

Quick Summary

Play short small-sided matches. Rotate teams. Enter results. Players earn individual points from team results. Highest points total wins.

1. Objective

Dutch Masters is a fast small-sided tournament where players earn points as individuals.

Players rotate through different teams across multiple short matches.

The player with the most points at the end of the session is the Dutch Master.

2. Match Format

Matches are usually played as 3v3 or 4v4.

Season Pass sessions may also use 5v5, 6v6 or mixed formats if selected by the coach.

Each match runs for 3 minutes by default, but the coach can adjust the game time.

3. Pitch Setup

Use a small-sided pitch suitable for the age and ability of the players.

The original format uses approximately 20 yards by 10 yards with small target goals.

If target goals are not available, use two cones about one yard apart.

Keep spare balls close so the coach can restart play quickly.

4. Core Playing Rules

No goalkeepers.

No offside.

Unlimited touches are allowed unless the coach sets a touch limit.

The original Dutch Masters format uses first-time finishes, but the coach can adapt this to suit the players.

For younger or developing players, the coach may allow normal finishing, set a maximum number of touches, or make 4 touches a turnover.

The ball should stay below head height unless the coach adapts this rule for the group.

If the ball goes above head height, award a direct free kick against the team that last touched it.

If the ball goes out of play, restart with a pass-in instead of a throw-in.

Corners apply as normal.

5. Uneven Numbers

As an option to maximise player involvement, the app can allow one game in a round to have uneven teams if selected by the coach.

Examples include 3v4, 4v5 or 5v6.

For example, with 21 players and 3 fields, the app may create 3v3, 3v4 and 4v4 games.

Only one uneven game should be used in a round where possible.

The app rotates uneven situations as fairly as it can across the session.

6. Rested Players

If there are extra players, some players may rest during a round.

Rested players should be rotated fairly.

A player should not rest again until all available players have rested once.

The coach can still adjust attendance if players arrive late or leave early.

7. Scoring

Players earn points based on their team result in each match.

Win = 10 points.

Draw = 5 points.

Loss = 2 points.

A 0–0 result counts as a draw.

8. Recording Results

After each match, enter the team scores.

The app automatically awards points to every player in the match.

Season Pass users can also record individual goals if that setting is turned on.

9. Deciding the Winner

At the end of the session, the player with the highest points total is the Dutch Master.

Season Pass ladders may also show form, movement, goals and full match statistics.

10. Coach Discretion

The coach can adapt field size, match format and rules to suit age, ability, safety and conditions.

The aim is fast play, lots of touches, fair rotation and competitive small-sided football.
